Two women charged over island riot

Extract from Australian Broadcasting Corporation - ABC Online, on 1 December 2004

North Queensland police have laid more charges over last week's Palm Island violence.

Two women, aged 30 and 60, have been charged with riotous behaviour.

Sixteen men are already in custody, pending a bail hearing on Monday.

The Palm Island police station, police barracks and courthouse were destroyed during the riot.

The unrest was sparked by the death of local man Cameron Doomadgee in police custody almost two weeks ago.
