Two charged after Palm Is incident

Extract from Australian Broadcasting Corporation - ABC Online, on 12 February 2005

Two people have been charged after an incident at the police station on Palm Island, off the north Queensland coast.

A 34-year-old man and 17-year-old youth allegedly threw rocks at the building, and at police officers this afternoon.

It is unclear what sparked today's incident.

The man and youth have been charged with offences including wilful damage, obstructing police and assaulting police.

They are due to appear in a Townsville court on Monday.

In an unrelated incident in November, the island's police station was burnt down during a riot, which was sparked by the death of an Aboriginal man who died while being held in the police watch-house.
