Minister remembers Myall Creek massacre

Extract from Australian Broadcasting Corporation - ABC Online, on 15 June 2004

NSW Mineral Resources Minister Kerry Hickey represented the Premier on the weekend at a ceremony held in memory of those who died in the Myall Creek massacre of 1838.

Twenty-eight Indigenous people were killed at Myall Creek, north of Tamworth, when they were attacked by a group of stockmen, many of whom were executed after being found guilty of murder.

Mr Hickey says he was honoured to pay tribute to those who died and referred to the memorial, which was built in the year 2000, as an enduring acknowledgement of the heartbreak suffered at Myall Creek.
