Stolen Generations case may go before UN

Extract from Australian Broadcasting Corporation - ABC Online, on 7 June 2004

Legal avenues are being explored to take the case of the Stolen Generations to the United Nations Human Rights Commission.

Barrister Michael Shaeffer, who represented Peter Gunner and Lorna Cubillo in the failed Federal Court case against the Government, says not all legal avenues have been exhausted.

Mr Shaeffer made the statement during the gathering of more than 200 people at the Northern Territory's Phillip Creek, renamed Kumunjayi Creek, 40 kilometres north of Tennant Creek.

It is the site where 16 part-Aboriginal children, including Lorna Cubillo, were forcibly removed from their families in 1946 and taken to the Retta Dixon home in Darwin.
