Prosecution wants Clark case thrown out of court

Extract from Australian Broadcasting Corporation - ABC Online, on 2 December 2003

Police in Victoria have finished giving evidence at the appeal by suspended Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC) chairman Geoff Clark against convictions for obstructing police and riotous behaviour.

Three more officers who were present at Warrnambool's Criterion Hotel in May last year have been cross-examined by Clark's lawyers in the Warrnambool County Court.

Again today, Robert Richter QC accused police of telling a pack of lies about their confrontation with a group of Aborigines, including Clark.

The prosecution evidence has now ended, and Mr Richter is making a submission to Judge William White, seeking to have the case thrown out at this stage.
