CD belts out 'freedom to sleep' message

Extract from Australian Broadcasting Corporation - ABC Online, on 8 November 2003

The Northern Territory's Longgrass Association has launched a live CD in conjunction with its annual 'Freedom to Sleep' event.

The event, held at Darwin's Raintree Park last night, aims to raise awareness about the high rate of homelessness among Indigenous people in Darwin.

The association's June Mills says it is unfair that people are receiving fines for sleeping in bush areas around the city.

"People are receiving fines for sleeping after dark, which is certainly not a crime in anybody's stretch of the imagination," she said.

"I do not believe it's happening anywhere else in the world."
