Food forum to wrap up today

Extract from Australian Broadcasting Corporation - ABC Online, on 22 May 2003

A forum to discuss the supply of food to Cape York communities in far north Queensland is scheduled to end this afternoon, after two days of consultation between Indigenous and government representatives.

Apunipima Cape York Health Council general manager Doreen Hart says nutrition is a primary concern for many remote districts.

Despite skepticism about the practical applications of such talks, Ms Hart is confident positive outcomes on the education front, in particular, will be achieved.

"Food supply and nutrition is one of the things that is high on the agenda and we've got staff members that are actually attending that forum, to have a say on what our views are on those issues - fresher fruit and vegies for sure, and the prices are an issue in our remote communities," she said.
