Aboriginal leadership to be honoured

Extract from Australian Broadcasting Corporation - ABC Online, on 7 March 2003

A new addition is to be made to Reconciliation Place in Canberra.

Federal Parliament has approved the building of a three sided artwork
dedicated to Aboriginal leadership.

The structure will feature the first Indigenous Senator Neville Bonner,
and land rights activist Vincent Lingiari who led a walk-off at the Wave
Hill Cattle Station in the Northern Territory in 1966.

National Capital Authority's principal architect Andrew Smith says another
section about the stolen generation is still being considered.

"We're currently undertaking negotiations with, and discussions with the
National Sorry Day Committee," he said.

"They're proceeding well and we're hoping at the conclusion of those
discussions we'll be able to construct a sliver which discusses the issue
of stolen generations."
