Gulpilil honoured for film career

Extract from Australian Broadcasting Corporation - ABC Online, on 03 March 2003

The inaugural Adelaide International Film Festival saw the presentation of
the first Don Dunstan Award for contribution to Australian film, presented
to Aboriginal actor David Gulpilil.

South Australia Premier Mike Rann presented the award to Gulpilil before
an audience of film makers, Aboriginal community members, his family and
other dignitaries.

Gulpilil began his career as a dancer, before starring in such films as
Walkabout, Storm Boy, The Last Wave, Rabbit Proof Fence and The Tracker.

During his brief two-minute speech he thanked not only governments but
also Aboriginal people.
