The Labor member for Lingiari Warren Snowdon says the Federal Government's
move to withdraw funding from several Indigenous education programs could
result in job losses across most schools in Northern Territory
communities.

Mr Snowdon says funding for the Indigenous Education Direct Assistance
programs is expected to be reduced by up to two-thirds.

He says the decision demonstrates the Federal Government is not committed
to Indigenous education.

He says the move to cull the programs comes less than three months after a
report to Parliament on Indigenous Education and Training highlighted the
wide gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous education standards in the
Northern Territory.
