Gulf town makes peace after brawl

Extract from Australian Broadcasting Corporation - ABC Online, on13 Dec 2002

The Borroloola Community Government Council in the Northern Territory says
it is business as usual today in the remote Gulf town, following a large
fight involving three gangs of young men.

Council spokesman Roy Hammer says the fight involved about 50 people with
weapons including baseball bats and nulla nullas.

NT police say liquor outlets were closed for 24 hours because of fears
alcohol would fuel the brawl.

Mr Hammer says the council and the police held a successful mediation
between the gangs yesterday.

"Today at Borroloola is good now, we had a meeting, a really big one and
everybody shook hands and... I think they'll be mates for good now," he
said.
