Search begins for croc attack victim

Extract from Australian Broadcasting Corporation - ABC Online, on 23 Oct 2002

A search is underway for a German tourist who was taken by a crocodile at
Kakadu in the Northern Territory overnight.

Police say the 24-year-old was attacked while she was swimming with a
group of tourists in the Sandy Billabong just before midnight.

Senior Sergeant Colin Smith says boats are patrolling the water and a team
of specialist divers is travelling from Darwin, while a helicopter is
being organised.

He says it is still not known why the group was swimming in a
crocodile-infested area.

"My understanding is there are warning signs warning people of the dangers
of swimming in croc-infested waters," he said.

"Police will certainly look at that aspect of the incident."
