Stories of Stolen Generations wanted for tribute

Extract from Australian Broadcasting Corporation - ABC Online, on 10 Sep 2002.

Members of the Stolen Generations are being urged to attend a series of
forums to have their say on a commemorative display planned for Canberra.

Reconciliation Place pays tribute to the beginning of the reconciliation
process and the section set aside for the Stolen Generations has not been
completed.

The Link-Up Aboriginal Corporation forums are being held to make sure any
information is accurate and culturally sensitive.

Spokeswoman Gillian Brannigan says it is vital for the people involved to
have their say.

She says the display in Canberra will educate overseas visitors and will
become the national tribute to those forcibly removed from their loved
ones.

"We're looking for stories, we're also looking for, if people could
summarise, if they wanted to tell somebody who knew nothing about the
Stolen Generations what it was about, what they'd say," Ms Brannigan said.

"We're hoping that from that, common themes will emerge, so we can use
those to commemorate the stolen generations at reconciliation place in
Canberra."
