Greenpeace installs solar panels at Tent Embassy

Extract from Australian Broadcasting Corporation - ABC Online, on Aug 18th, 2002.

Members of the Tent Embassy in Canberra say the donation of solar panels
to restore electricity to the site in front of the old parliament house is
proof there is strong community support for the embassy.

Power was cut to the site last Tuesday after a fire in a tent, prompting
calls from the Federal Territories Minister, Wilson Tuckey, for the
embassy to close permanently.

Greenpeace is now installing solar panels to keep the embassy powered with
renewable energy.

Tent Embassy spokesman Darren Bloomfield says the embassy has been
strengthened by the experience.

"There's too much support out there and there's too much of Australia that
really believes that this place has to be here and myself personally
believe it has to be here because there's still a problem to face," he
said.
