Program to address substance abuse in remote Aboriginal communities

Extract from Australian Broadcasting Corporation - ABC Online, on July 29th, 2002.

A series of pilot programs is planned in remote Aboriginal communities
aimed at addressing substance abuse, including petrol sniffing.

A conference in Adelaide organised by the National Indigenous Substance
Misuse Council has heard that communities are becoming increasingly
worn-out from trying to deal with the problem, mostly affecting young
people.

State Aboriginal Affairs Minister Terry Roberts says funding is being
provided as a matter of urgency for communities in South Australia's
Pitjantjatjara Lands to improve support services and prevention programs.
