Name and Country Have you ever taught someone else how to play the didj? What tips do you have for people wanting to learn to play the didj?
Andrew from USA 1 WANT to learn. You won't learn if you don't have the desire in your heart to play this instrument. The didge will not open up to you if you do not want it. You'll get angry and aggravated at times (I did) but if you keep at it you will eventually start learning things. The more you learn they more you can build on and before you know it you will be sounding pretty good!
Geir Ove Strand from Norway 0 I have just begun playing. The only thing I want to say is HAVE FUN ENJOY:) Be a part of the didj
Leon Strydom from South Africa 0 Get one
Curt from Canada 0 Listen listen listen practice practice practice make or buy a didj or two
Anonymous 0 Don't wait until you are old:( like me. If I had learnt a long time ago I would be teaching everyone else by now
Anonymous 0 I just ordered my first didgeridoo and I want to learn how to play.
Anonymous 0 I have none as I don't play yet.
Ross Daniel from Australia 0 Buy a good genuine didgeridoo
Satria from Germany 1 Practice every day and just play
Evan from France 0 Practice practice practice!
Peggylynn from USA 0 Everyone should try it is very soothing
Steve from Korea (rep) 4-7 I advise beginners to relax (your lips) and blow a 'raspberry' and softly flutter your lips. It's not a trumpet so do not force the air down the didge. It's a soft flutter of the lips inside the didgeridoo making / creating a vibration sending the vibrational sound waves down the didge. Very important to relax do not get tense. Practice practice practice.
Tomislav from Croatia/Hrvatska 2-3 Just blow very lightly and think of yourself in a woods
Joe from USA 2-3 Relax keep trying and experiment.
Robert from USA 1 Do not stop trying. It took me awhile to get the circular breathing down but I taught a girl how to play in under an hour. I was very jealous.
Dan Kearns from USA 0 Try...
Raphael Santos Vieira from Brazil 0 Infelizmente ainda nao tive o prazer de jogar didj... Quero comprar um o quanto antes para aprender a joga-lo.
John Watchpocket from USA 0 I would have to suggest that they check out YouTube for tutorials on how to practice. In my town there aren't many Didge players so it's not easy finding a teacher. YouTube has opened up so many opportunities to learn and grow as a musician.
Anonymous from USA 0 Get a teacher
Benjoseph from USA 1 Practice
Anonymous from Australia 0 Listen study & learn.
Anonymous 1 Patience and practice
Chris Ward from Australia 1 Practice

Isaac from USA 11-20 Aside from hands on 1 on 1 teaching 3 people how to didgeridoo. I also presented a "how to" speech in class on how to didgeridoo. Some tips I would give for those just learning includes; staying relaxed vibrate your lips - you want it to be tight for a sharp drone. You can add other dimensions to your didging such as vocal tones - both low or high using your tongue to shift position of drone and then learn circular breathing. (Its much easier in person with visuals/examples)
Conrad from Australia 1 Find an easy PVC pipe 40mm to first learn to circular breathe on. Then move onto a real Didj
Anonymous 2-3 Practice breathing
Bruce from Australia 0 Experiment persist; then find a teacher and experiment some more.
Rian from USA 20+ I say to be willing to try 100 times before giving up. Don't blow too hard more like horselips...soft and relaxed are best to get the drone.
Kate from USA 2-3 Practice blowing while driving around
Mary from USA 2-3 Get as many CDs as you can afford listen to YouTube people to get inspired. Play as much as you can for a short periods of time and let your imagination go places it has never gone before. Let the inner creativity in you out of the box and just have fun with it.
B.g. from USA 0 Practice breathing.
Ron from Canada 0 Be persistent
Nick from USA 2-3 The most important part of starting for me was finding that sweet spot in the tension in your lips when you get that nice crisp drone. Because everyone who I was able to coach to get to that point needed no more persuasion to continue learning.
Anonymous 0 Just go for it! And don't be discouraged at first its a trial and error process and may even be frustrating in the beginning but the key is to keep practicing.
David from USA 1 Bees wax.
Matt from USA 2-3 It's much like learning to ride a bicycle. Frustrating and seemingly impossible at first (especially circular breathing) but practice really makes perfect and you WILL get it eventually. Once you learn it you could take a break for a while pick up a didge a few years later and pick up right where you left off... so it is well worth the time it takes to learn.
John from USA 2-3 Just try it and do a raspberry sound with your lips while you are blowing on it.
Anonymous 4-7 Don't give up - it's not so difficult
Sue from USA 0 Don't give up. It will happen.

Beatriz from Costa Rica 2-3 Just play with the sounds with the animal sounds and the nature songs.
G Hobart (Bart) from USA 2-3 Breath easy!
Michael from USA 0 Keep practising!

Rich from USA 1 Commit the time
Anonymous 4-7 Practicar todos los dias no rendirce nuka
Eric Kubisch from USA 1 More practice equals better sounds.

Tony Mosley from USA 0 Lot of Practice and Patience
Michael Spring from USA 0 Get a wax mouth piece

Anonymous from Norway 2-3 To play on a plastic pipe.
Bradley King from Australia 0 Keep your lungs healthy
Matt Luebbert from USA 8-10 Its like playing a horn. But your lips vibrate more and you let out less air. And playing out of the side of your mouth is easier.
Diane Sampson from New Zealand 0 I guess to Love it so much you don't put it down
David from Switzerland 1 Not actively think about what to do but what feels right with time
Anonymous from Australia 0 I have tried teaching a couple of people but they have found it difficult and didn't continue trying.
Harrold from Netherlands 2-3 - not to blow to hard; the didge wants to sound it just needs a little encouragement. - when practicing circular breathing there will be gaps at first. The gaps will become smaller with practice and close eventually.
Mel from USA 2-3 Relax. That is the biggest help I can think of. Most people try to hard or are too hard on themselves for not being able to do it right away. Also relax is a good visual to have for your lips.
Suzanne from Netherlands 0 The circular breathing is of course very important. When I have found a sweet rhythm I get a little sad that I have to stop to breathe. (I'm still a beginner) So make sure to practice that:) And just do what feels good for you don't get frustrated if something doesn't work like you want it to. Just practice and enjoy the fact that you are playing a beautiful instrument with a very unique sound with such a rich culture:)
