Anonymous 1985-1990 Was aware of the instrument but first really became interested when it was part of the soundtrack for the Crocodile Dundee movie. Have since been interested in its sound and use in both traditional Aboriginal context and in modern music. First saw a traditional didge on a trip to Sydney in 1994. Incorporated it into contemporary Christian music at church. Self-taught amateur. I find the tones and rhythms interesting.

Anonymous Before 1980 As a child in the old primary school social studies pre-1970's subject and for some strange reason became very alert to anything Aboriginal so would have heard it on the ABC which was a cultural lifeline out in the sticks. A psychic I met once told me I had an Aboriginal Spiritual Guide out of the blue but I am not into that scene. Have since attended performances by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. Borrowed a video many years ago from Dee Why library on the topic but found trying to learn was difficult from an access point of view the same problem I have had trying to learn Mandarin...a native teacher goes a long way!

Darryl from Canada 1997-1999 I heard it mixed in with other forms of music but not on it's own. Always in the background noise used as a very hypnotic sound. Until recently in the past 2 yrs have been really studying the sound and instrument itself and the origin.
Clark from USA 2001 A old music teacher of mine had a lesson over all the instruments of the world and the didge came up. I wanted one for years but as a youngster (ankle biter) at the time I could never have one.
Kathryn from USA 2009 I heard about them in culture and society class.
Mike from Canada 2007 I was vaguely familiar with it as a sound on cartoons etc. growing up and was always eerily attracted to it having no idea how it was made. But when I actually saw one and realized that it created that primal sound I had a connection with I knew I had to play one.
Anonymous 2003 My friend showed me a video because his dad played it.
Kevin from USA 2005 The first time I herd a Didgeridoo was when I moved to Colorado and went to a party. A man was blowing into a long tube that made a growling sound and when he would press his lips it would make a different sound. I fell in love with the didgeridoo right then. I went out then and made one out of PVC pipe. Dose not sound as good as the bamboo but it still gets everyone wanting to play the drum or other things (even sometimes dance).
