Eight charged over riot in Qld Aboriginal community

Extract from Australian Broadcasting Corporation - ABC Online, on 8 March 2004

Eight people have been charged after a riot in the central Queensland Aboriginal community of Woorabinda last night.

Police say a group of young people threw broken pavers at the police station about 8:00pm last night.

Officers were forced to call in reinforcements from Blackwater, Baralaba and Duaringa.

They say no-one was injured in the riot and there was little damage to the police station.

Three adults and five juveniles are facing a number of charges, including behaving in a riotous manner.

Five of them are in custody and are expected to face the Rockhampton Magistrates Court this morning.
