Govt urged to resolve Clark's future

Extract from Australian Broadcasting Corporation - ABC Online, on 27 January 2004

The Federal Opposition is demanding the Government act quickly to resolve the future of suspended ATSIC chairman Geoff Clark.

The Federal Government last week renewed Mr Clark's suspension from the job, while he appeals against a conviction for obstructing police during a pub brawl.

But Labor leader Mark Latham has told Southern Cross Radio it is time to end the uncertainty.

"I would have thought it's time to sort it out, you know they've got legal advice about his standing and why don't they just act on the advice, whatever that might be, instead of dragging this out," he said.

"It's terribly unsettling for ATSIC isn't it, he's supposed to run an organisation with a stack of public money and how are they going to do that with a fellow who's in limbo."
