Tribal elders concerned over embassy changes

Extract from Australian Broadcasting Corporation - ABC Online, on 29 July 2003

Some elders from the Ngunnawal tribe in Canberra are concerned they were not told about the future of the Aboriginal Tent Embassy site before the ATSIC regional council approved a raft of recommendations.

ATSIC will meet with the Ngunnawal community today to discuss the recommendations, which are likely to include a ban on camping at the site.

The review into the embassy site is expected to be made public this week.

But Ngunnawal elder Don Bell says the process has been secretive.

"Naturally if they decide what they want to do, I want to see what they're going to do, though no-one knows what they're going to do - it's all hush-hush," he said.
